The SAIF has two Vevo2100 ultrasound systems from VisualSonics available in Marsico Hall and the Genetics Medicine Building.

In additon to the Vevo2100 ultrasound system housed in the GMB imaging lab inside the animal facility, another Vevo鈥2100 ultrasound imaging system (Visualsonics, Inc.) is now available in the imaging facility in Marsico Hall. The system was purchased through a shared instrumentaton grant award (S10 RR025594, PI: Paul Dayton), and was originally placed in Dr. Paul Dayton鈥檚 lab. The system is equipped with all the bells and whistles, almost all the modes you can get with the animal ultrasound imaging. Major configurations are described in the following:
- Five transducers: MS200 (18MHz center frequency); MS250 (24MHz); MS400 (38 MHz); MS550D (55 MHz), and MS700 (70MHz)
- Various imaging modes: B鈥恗ode; M鈥恗ode; PW Doppler Mode; PW Tissue Doppler Mode; Color Doppler Mode; Power Doppler Mode; 3D鈥怣ode; Contrast Imaging Functionality; Digital RF Mode
- Analysis tools: VevoStrain Analysis Suite; VevoCQ鈩 Advanced Contrast Quantification Software; Vevo庐 Color ; ECG鈥怲riggered 鈥 Respiration Gated Analysis
- Imaging stage with micromanipulator mounted for imaging鈥恎uided injection
The Vevo鈥2100 system offers many attractive imaging features that you might not be able to achieve in some older models. Several major advantages include:
- Multiple foci allow complete field of view in focus for better full organ imaging and large tumor imaging
- Faster B鈥恗ode frame rate (>250 fps vs. average 60 fps in Vevo770) for fast scan and fast 3鈥怐 imaging
- Improved Doppler imaging and quantification
- Solid鈥恠tate array transducer
- Larger field of view (max. 36x36mm)
With all these tools, the system is able to offer superb ultrasound imaging capability on mice and rats.
