´óÏó´«Ã½ CFAR investigator Dr. Monica Maria Diaz recently published a study in The Journal of Gerontology revealing significant associations between internalized HIV stigma and cognitive decline in women aged 50 and older living with HIV. Some key findings of the study included:ÌýÌý
- 760 participants (mean age: 54); 61% identified as Black/African American.Ìý
- Over half earned less than $12,000 annually.Ìý
- Higher internalized stigma was linked to poorer global cognition, verbal learning, and memory over four years.Ìý
These associations remained even after adjusting for demographic and health variables. This research underscores the urgent need for stigma-reduction interventions to support the cognitive health of aging women with HIV. To read the full article, click .ÌýÌý
