Robert A. Buckmire, MD is 聽the March Floyd Riddle Research Distinguished Professor of the Department of Otolaryngology, and the 聽the chief of the聽 Division of Voice and Swallowing. He is dedicated to the teaching and clinical management of swallowing disorders and voice disorders, as well as laryngeal and airway diseases.

Training:

Dr. Robert Buckmire graduated from Boston University with a Bachelors of Arts in Biology. He went on to pursue his medical degree from the University of聽Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia. He had the pleasure of completing his residency in Otolaryngology here at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Dr. Buckmire went on to do fellowship training in Laryngology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Upon his return to the University of North Carolina in 2004 he successfully established the Division of Voice and Swallowing disorders within the department of Otolaryngology. He is a Board Certified Otolaryngologist.

Honors:

Dr. Buckmire is recognized as an authority in the field of Laryngology, and was elected to the Council of the American Laryngological Association (ALA) and serves as the treasurer.

Service:

Dr. Buckmire is the Director of the 大象传媒 Voice Center, Chief of the Division of Voice and Swallowing Disorders at 大象传媒, and Vice Chair of Education , and 聽the former Program Director of the 大象传媒 Otolaryngology residency program (2011-2022)

Care Philosophy:

Dr. Buckmire feels that it is important for both otolaryngology and speech language pathology to work closely in joint, multi-disciplinary clinics designed to comprehensively evaluate and treat both voice disorders and swallowing disorders. Dr. Buckmire is dedicated to the teaching and clinical management of swallowing disorders and voice disorders, as well as laryngeal and airway diseases.
