Assistant Professor

Biographical Information

Dr. Kowitt is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine. She received her MPH and PhD from the Department of Health Behavior in the 大象传媒 Gillings School of Global Public Health and completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Family Medicine at 大象传媒.

Areas of Interest

Dr. 碍辞飞颈迟迟鈥檚 research focuses on preventing and reducing tobacco and cannabis use, particularly among youth and young adults. Within this field, she is most interested in advancing policies, regulations, and health communication strategies. Her currently funded K01 focuses on developing and evaluating communication messages to reduce dual/poly tobacco use among youth. Dr. Kowitt also co-leads Project 4 in 大象传媒鈥檚 Center Grant on Tobacco Regulatory Science (TCORS), focused on understanding the impact of vaping prevention ads among youth and young adults.聽Most recently, Dr. Kowitt is also PI of an R01 focused on strengthening cannabis warning labels.

Dr. Kowitt has published more than 70 peer-reviewed papers in journals that include Health Affairs, JAMA Network Open, American Journal of Public Health, Addiction, Journal of Adolescent Health, Tobacco Control, and Nicotine and Tobacco Research. She has expertise in experimental design, discrete choice experiments, longitudinal RCTs, and other quantitative and qualitative research methods. Dr. Kowitt is also a member of 大象传媒 Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and a research fellow at the 大象传媒 Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.
