This past weekend (Feb. 28 – March 2, 2025) marked the annual North Carolina Neurological Society meeting at the Washington Duke Inn in Durham, NC. 大象传媒 Neurology faculty, residents, and staff attended as participants, presenters, and speakers throughout the weekend.

Neurologists and researchers from across North Carolina joined together starting Friday, February 28th for the annual NCNS meeting. 大象传媒 Neurology faculty, staff, and trainees attended the event to share their work and research. Beginning Saturday at 11:15am, Neurology Resident Claire Brooks presented on the work she has been engaging in throughout her residency. Next, Dr. Daniel Roque presented on Providing Tremor Interdisciplinary Care: Needs Assessment and Review of Benefits. 大象传媒 genetic counselor, Hailey Segall, served as a panelist on Practical Approaches to Evaluating, Screening and Treating Patients with AD with the new AD Drugs Panel.

On Sunday, 大象传媒 Neurology faculty co-presented at all four breakout sessions:

  • Epilepsy – Dr. Brandon Waters, Dr. Senyene Hunter, Dr. Yael Shiloh-Malawsky, and Resident, Dr. James Andrews
  • Multiple Sclerosis – Dr. Irena Dujmovic Basuroski
  • Neuromuscular – Dr. Vinay Chaudhry
  • Stroke – Dr. Dina Williams

Several Residents presented their research as posters at the conference:

  • Dr. Nikash Shankar, Improving Lumbar Puncture Training through Ultrasound Guidance
  • Drs. Thiri Lin and Chhitij Tiwari, Implementation of a Standardized Order Set for the Management of Status Epilepticus in the Electronic Medical Records System, A Quality Improvement Initiative聽

Finally, Emma Cardwell won first place for her poster, Understanding Epilepsy in Individuals with Malan Syndrome. Emma is a medical student working with Dr. Senyene Hunter’s Genetic Determinants of Neurological and Developmental Disorders (GDNDD) research group and is helping to lead a study phenotyping neurological features in individuals with Malan Syndrome.
