Terry Magnuson is the Kay M. and Van L. Weatherspoon Eminent Distinguished Professor of Genetics and Founding Chair of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine鈥檚 Department of Genetics, the Carolina Center for Genome Sciences, and the Cancer Genetics program. He previously served as Vice Dean for Research in the School of Medicine and Vice Chancellor for Research at the University. He also holds a secondary appointment in 大象传媒鈥檚 new School of Data Science and Society, where he acts as the Chief Research and Strategy Officer on the school’s leadership team. He is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the National Academy of Medicine. He has been a member of the NIH Council of Councils, the National Academies Regenerative Medicine Forum, and NIH鈥檚 All of Us advisory committee. Additionally, he served as President of the Genetics Society of America and is a member of the Life Sciences Research Foundation review committee. The Magnuson lab鈥檚 research concentrates on the role of mammalian genes in distinct epigenetic phenomena such as cancer, meiosis, and stem cell pluripotency. Dr. Magnuson earned his Ph.D. from Cornell University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco.
