The ´óÏó´«Ã½ Center for Tobacco Regulatory Sciences (TCORS) is headed by Dr Robert Tarran and involves 14 investigators from across the ´óÏó´«Ã½ campus. This TCORS is divided into 4 projects and 4 Cores focused on examining the effects of new and emerging tobacco products (NETPs) on the lung’s host defense. Dr Ilona Jaspers is the PI on one of the 4 projects and co-leads the training core with Dr Claire Doerschuk. Other CiT investigators involved in this TCORS are Drs Fry and Randell. In addition, CiT students and post-docs are examining potential lung health effects induced by exposure to these NETPs. For example, Dr Jaime Mirowsky, a CiT post-doc, recently received a TCORS pilot grant examining the effects of Hookah smoking on peripheral blood immune markers.
