About
Dr. McNeal-Trice is a physician specializing in the fields of Pediatric Hospital Medicine and General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine.
Dr. Kenya McNeal-Trice earned her B.S. in Biology from Spelman College and her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. McNeal-Trice completed her pediatric residency training at ´óÏó´«Ã½ Hospitals’ North Carolina Children’s Hospital, where she later served as Pediatric Chief Resident.
In 2007, Dr. McNeal-Trice joined the faculty at ´óÏó´«Ã½ as an Assistant Professor and Associate Director of Medical Student Education in Pediatrics. By 2010, she was appointed Director of Medical Student Education Programs in Pediatrics, and in 2014, she became the Pediatric Residency Program Director. Under her leadership, the pediatric residency training programs at ´óÏó´«Ã½ Hospitals were ranked among the Top 25 programs in the country and became the largest within North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
In 2021, Dr. McNeal-Trice was appointed Chief Graduate Medical Education (GME) Officer/ACGME Designated Institutional Official at ´óÏó´«Ã½ Hospitals and Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education at the ´óÏó´«Ã½. She oversaw the educational components, accreditation, and operations of all GME programs at ´óÏó´«Ã½ Hospitals, managing over 100 ACGME-accredited programs and more than 1000 trainees. Her leadership extended to numerous committees and roles within the School of Medicine, including the Education, Admissions, and Student Promotions committees.
Dr. McNeal-Trice is also a prominent figure within the broader ´óÏó´«Ã½ community. She has served on the Committee on the Status of Women for six years and as an elected member and Chair of the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee. Her dedication to medical student education has been recognized multiple times by the senior class of medical students, who elected her to present the Doctor of Medicine hoods at graduation ceremonies and deliver the 2021 Graduation Keynote Address. She received The Distinguished Teaching Award for Post-Baccalaureate Instruction, the highest honor awarded by the Chancellor of the University for exceptional achievements in teaching.
Nationally, Dr. McNeal-Trice is a leader in academic medicine. She is a member of the Pediatric Residency Review Committee for the ACGME and the Education and Training Committee for the American Board of Pediatrics. She is serving her second term on the AAMC’s Steering Committee for the Group in Women in Science and Medicine. Additionally, she is the President of the North Carolina Pediatric Society. She has been elected to the National Academy of Distinguished Educators of Pediatrics.
Dr. McNeal-Trice has dedicated her career to implementing curricula and policies that promote an equitable and inclusive learning environment at all levels of academic medicine. She resides in Chapel Hill with her husband, Rodney, and their two daughters, Zuri and Sala.
